Freeland/Nouvel/Valley defeated Kalamazoo United 9 - 4 at Edge Ice Arena Grand Rapids on Thursday. Freeland/Nouvel/Valley and Kalamazoo United both scored one goal to end the first period tied. As the second period unfolded, Freeland/Nouvel/Valley outscored their opponents by two goals and took the lead. In the final period, Freeland/Nouvel/Valley outscored their opponents by three goals and kept the lead to win the game.

Leading the scoring for Freeland/Nouvel/Valley, Josh Koepplinger netted the hat trick with six goals.

In less than spectacular goaltending, Freeland/Nouvel/Valley's Brandon Hausbeck had -4 saves to earn the win.

This was the first game of the season for Kalamazoo United but Freeland/Nouvel/Valley entered the game with a record of 8-0.
