2014 NHL Draft: Buffalo Sabres Draft Christopher Brown In Sixth Round

With the 151st pick in the sixth round of the NHL Draft, the Buffalo Sabres select Cranbrook School (Michigan) center and future Boston College Eagle Christopher Brown. There is no shortage of family lineage when discussing the hockey pedigree of Boston College recruit Christopher Brown of the Cranbrook School.

The Bloomfield Hills, MI native and 2014 graduate of Cranbrook, is the son of Doug Brown who had 420 points in nearly 1,000 career NHL games, mostly with the Detroit Red Wings. Doug was also an All-Hockey East and All-American performer at BC.

His brother Patrick was the captain of the 2013-14 Eagles and recently signed a pro contract with the Carolina Hurricanes organization. His uncle is BC associate head coach Greg Brown, a former Eagle himself.

The youngest Brown with NHL hopes has put up gaudy offensive numbers (2014 stats: 26 goals, 58 assists, 28 GP) against Michigan high school competition, but next year will get his first real test in the USHL with the Green Bay Gamblers.

According to Cranbrook Head Coach Andy Weidenbach, Christopher is a character guy, “At our level, he was a game changer, he made things happen and he raised the level of play of his teammates. His work ethic, focus, determination and, obviously his skill level and physical strengths, are all admirable.  He was a tremendous captain, one of the best we’ve had during my years at Cranbrook.  When you put it all together, Christopher is the complete package.”

If he has anywhere near the "it factor" of his brother Patrick or the ability to score at the NHL level like his father, he will make an NHL team very happy it selected him in the 2014 NHL Draft on Saturday.
