Dow High, Midland High hockey teams posts shutouts

TRENTON — Dow High got off on the right track at the Trenton Hockey Showcase on Friday with a 3-0 nonleague victory over Traverse City Central at the Kennedy Recreation Center.

The Chargers scored once in each period, with Nick Sleeper scoring first off assists from Cay Wagner and Andrew Michalowski.

Michalowski followed with an unassisted goal in the second period for the Chargers, while Johnny Wilson’s third-period goal was set up by Alex Farrell.

Both teams tallied 26 shots, with Dow goalie Jeremy Slasor earning the shutout with 26 saves.

“Everyone played hard, had some jump, and played physical,” said Dow coach Dick Blasy. “It was a very nice team win.”

The Chargers (12-6) continue at the Showcase event with Houghton in a game scheduled for 8 a.m. today.

Midland High 6, Tri-Valley 0

SAGINAW — Greg Landis scored two goals Friday as Midland High beat the host Tri-Valley Titans 6-0 at The Dow Event Center on Friday.

Tyler Squires, Dylan Sirrine, Luke Trombley and Matthew Gross each added one goal for the Chemics, and Cheyne Maier had two assists.

Weondong Hwang made 24 saves for Midland, which outshot Tri-Valley 43-24.

The Chemics (12-9) host Dow High at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
