Craig Staskowski named Head Coach of De La Salle

De La Salle is pleased to announce the hiring of CRAIG STASKOWSKI as the Pilots’ new head varsity ice hockey coach.

Staskowski takes over from Dan Barry, who retired earlier this year after 13 seasons as the Pilots’ leader.

Staskowski has coached high school hockey for the last 12 years, and been head coach of Rochester United for the last five years.

He said, “I am truly honored for the opportunity to join the De La Salle family. I look forward to running a program at De La Salle that strives for excellence on the ice, in the classroom, and in the community.”

Coach Staskowski will be meeting  with interested DLS hockey players on Tuesday, May 10, in the DRC, from 3:15 – 3:45 p.m.

With Rochester United, he won four straight OAA Red League Championships and compiled a 110-69-14 record. Two of his players were named to the state’s Dream Team, and 11 have been All-Staters. He has previous coaching stints with Utica High School and Warren-Sterling United, as well as Grosse Pointe North and Lakeview High Schools.

“We are thrilled Coach Staskowski is part of the Pilot Nation,” said Athletic Director Brian Kelly. “Craig’s passion for teaching the game of hockey at the high school level is exemplary. He has been a student of the game and has worked alongside of and learned from some of the best in the game. Our program is in great hands with Coach Staskowski.”

Staskowski is Vice-President of the Michigan High School Hockey Coaches Association, and was Head Coach of Team Michigan Junior Team this year.

He has been a hockey official for over 20 years at all levels of amateur, junior, college, and professional hockey.

A Social Studies teacher at Warren Woods Middle School, Staskowski is a lifelong Macomb County resident. He grew up in Sterling Heights, and graduated from Sterling Heights High School. He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Social Studies from Oakland University.

He and his wife Lindsay live in Macomb Township and are the parents of two boys.
