GRAND RAPIDS — Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central tallied four goals in the second period to post a 4-3 nonleague hockey win over Dow High in the OK vs. SVL Conference Showcase on Saturday.

Shane Astrike scored in both the first and third periods for the Chargers. Forest Hills Central scored four goals in the second period to make it 4-1 heading into the final period.

Dow got a goal from Brendan Holbrook and Astrike to completed the scoring.

Nathan Painter and Garrett Brillhart had assists on Astrike’s first goal, while Brendan Sanders and Joey Johnson assisted on Holbrook’s goal. Jon Baillargeon and Josh Storer picked up assists on Astrike’s second goal.

Seamus Belisle made 24 saves in goal for the Chargers.

“In the first and third periods we played really well, but you can see by the four goals that we didn’t play so well in the second. We stopped moving our feet, and they really took advantage of it,” said Dow coach Dick Blasy.

The Chargers pulled Belisle from the net in favor of an extra skater with hopes of tying the game late, but came up short.

“Forest Hills is a very strong team, and with a 4-1 lead we could’ve just packed it in, but the boys showed a lot of character and guts tonight,” said Blasy.

Dow (2-2) hosts Bay City on Wednesday.
