Bay City defeated host Dow High 1-0 in nonleague hockey on Wednesday at the Midland Civic Arena.

The Wolves’ Noah Haward scored the only goal of the game midway through the second period, assisted by Clayton Weiss and Nick Nellett.

Wolves’ coach Mike Kayner said his team didn’t give its best performance, but that it was good enough to come out with a win on the road.

“We kept working and plugged away and were able to come away with a win,” Kayner said. “We did what we had to and got the goal we needed. We had a couple timely saves by our goalie; that was important. There are certainly areas we can improve upon.”

Griffin Kwaiser played in net for Bay City and had 28 saves, while Seamus Belisle made 11 saves for the Chargers.

Dow coach Dick Blasy said that his team did not play with the energy he saw in its two road games last weekend.

“We controlled most of the play, but at the same time I think Bay City played with more energy and they sacrificed more to win than we did,” Blasy said. “We had our chances, but Bay City does a nice job of blocking shots. We had opportunities, but I don’t think we worked hard enough to capitalize on those opportunities. Tonight we came out flat and just couldn’t get that one goal to get things going.”

Dow (2-3) travels to Traverse City to play the Bay Area Reps on Friday.
