Flint Powers Over Mt. Pleasant 5-1

Flint Powers faced off against SVL Conference rivals Mt. Pleasant in a road game which saw Mt. Pleasant’s goalie turn away 49 shots; Adam Cantley’s shut-out streak end after eleven periods and senior forward Conor Witherspoon’s 100th point as a Charger as Powers defeated Mt. Pleasant 5-1.

Powers kicked off the scoring at 13:37 of the first period with a goal from senior forward Brendan Smith (LTU’s Central Region Player of the Week) with assists from line mate Conor Witherspoon (LTU’s Central Region Player of the Month) and team captain Jake Polakowski. At 2:30, Conor Witherspoon buried a beautiful pass from line mate Brendan Smith to make it 2-0 in favor of the Chargers. Mason Weiss also rendered valuable assistance on the Witherspoon goal.

Junior forward Sam Lechel checked in with a goal at 11:48 of the second with assists from senior defenseman Mac Diver and junior forward Cam Leiffers. With 1:01 left in the second period, junior forward Cam Conover scored the first of his two on the power play with assists from Brendan Smith and sophomore Mason Weiss.

In the third, Cam Conover scored his second goal of the game on the power play at 10:00 when he one-timed a Conor Witherspoon pass from the slot. Jake Polakowski assisted as well on the Conover goal. Mt. Pleasant’s Kaleb Ramon scored a power play goal at 4:57 ending Adam Cantley’s scoreless streak at 189:03. Mason Pinwar and Logan Smith assisted on the Ramon’s goal.  

A tip of the cap to Mt. Pleasant’s senior goaltender Aaron Friedlein, who was barraged by a total of 54 shots during the game. Congratulations are also in order for goaltender Adam Cantley’s shut-out streak and senior forward Conor Witherspoon’s 100th point as a member of the Flint Powers Chargers.

The Chargers return home Wednesday for a game against SVL Conference rivals Davison before embarking on their annual Father-Son trip, which will take them to Indianapolis for two games against highly ranked opponents.
