LTU Player of the Week Jan 2 - Jan 8

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - Lawrence Tech Hockey has teamed up with the Michigan High School Hockey Coaches' Association to sponsor in-season and post-season awards.

Lawrence Tech Hockey has created an independent selection committee to vote on the weekly and monthly awards winners. The selection committee is made up of nine (9) media members from throughout the state.  Each week, the committee votes on the top nominated players by their respective coaches and HS teams to rank their individual performances.

Lawrence Tech Hockey is proud to announce the Lawrence Tech Hockey High School Players of the Week for January 2-8:

North Region: Nick Voelker, Junior Goaltender, Calumet

 

Voelker stopped 22 shots to lead Calumet to a 4-1 win over the #2 team in Division 1, Brighton. Calumet is on a three game winning streak and is currently ranked 7th in Division 3. Calumet will host Detroit U of D Jesuit on Friday, January 13th.

 

Honorable Mention: Colin Gaffney (Jr. Forward, Marquette), Will Stier (Jr. Goaltender, Houghton)

  

South Region: Josh Ernst, Junior Forward, Ann Arbor Skyline

 

Josh had a big week for Ann Arbor Skyline, scoring 2 goals and 4 assists in a 8-0 mercy win over city rival Ann Arbor Huron. The junior forward added an assist in a 6-5 loss to Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard. Skyline is 6-3-1 on the season and will host the Saline Hornets tonight (1/11).

 

Honorable Mention: Sean Finstrom (Sr. Goaltender, Novi-Detroit Catholic Central), Bo Bell (Sr. Forward, Jackson Lumen Christi)

  

Central Region: Brendan Smith, Senior Forward, Flint Powers Catholic Central

 

Brendan Smith and Flint Powers continue to dominate in the New Year. Smith led the Chargers to a 2-0 record last week by scoring 4 goals and 4 assists in victories over Chelsea and Bay City. Flint Powers will travel to Mt. Pleasant tonight (1/11) to take on the Mt. Pleasant Oilers. Flint Powers Catholic Central is the #1 ranked team in the state.

 

Honorable Mention: Josh Seiter (Sr. Forward, Howell), Cam Smith (Sr. Forward, Grand Blanc)

  

West Region: Nick Sarjeant, Senior Defenseman, Forest Hills Central

 

Sarjeant came up huge this past weekend for Forest Hills Central. The senior defenseman assisted on both FHC goals in a 2-1 win over rival Grand Rapids Catholic Central. On Saturday, Sarjeant scored 2 goals and added one assist to lead Forest Hills Central to a 4-1 win over Grandville. Forest Hills Central faces off against Reeths-Puffer tonight (1/11) at Walker Arena. Forest Hills Central is currently ranked 2nd in Division 3.

 

Honorable Mention: Colin Stecco (So. Forward, East Grand Rapids), Wyatt Radakovitz (Sr. Forward, Forest Hils N-E)

  

Metro East Region: Brett Lanski, Senior Forward, Romeo

 

Brett Lanski started the New Year off with a bang, scoring 3 goals and 6 assists in the first week of 2017. Lanski led Romeo to a 6-3 victory over Lake Orion and a 7-4 win over Macomb Dakota. The Bulldogs host Traverse City West on Friday, January 13th. Romeo is riding a six (6) game win streak as they sit 6-5-0 on the season.

 

Honorable Mention: Matt Haist (Jr. Forward, Utica Eisenhower), Gabe Potyk (So. Forward, Lake Orion)

  

Metro West Region: Will Tagge, Junior Goaltender, Livonia Stevenson

 

Tagge made 20 saves to backstop the Spartans to a 4-2 win over conference rival (#3 D2) Plymouth. The junior netminder would stop 15 shots in a 4-1 win over the Salem Rocks. Livonia Stevenson will travel to Traverse City on Friday, January 13 to take on Traverse City Central. The Spartans are 7-5-0 on the season and are currently ranked 5th in Division 2.

 

Honorable Mention: Josh Friend (Jr. Forward, Livonia Churchill), Blake Heier (Sr. Forward, Hartland)

  

Metro North Region: Andrew Grewette, Sophomore Goaltender, Warren DeLaSalle

 

Andrew Grewette stopped 28 shots to lead Warren DeLaSalle to a 4-1 victory over (#2 D2) Brother Rice. DeLaSalle hosts (#1 D1) Novi-Detroit Catholic Central tonight (1/11) in a battle between to state powerhouses. DeLaSalle is 8-2-1 on the season and currently ranked 3rd in Division 3.

 

Honorable Mention: Henry Gabriel (Sr. Forward, Royal Oak), Andrew Beggs (So. Forward, Birmingham Unified)

  

Metro South Region: Brandon Morgan, Senior Forward, Trenton

 

Brandon Morgan was dominant for the Trojans scoring 3 goals and 4 assists in Trenton's 8-0 win over the Carlson Marauders. Morgan and the Trojans will travel to Wyandotte Rosevelt tonight (1/11). Trenton is currently 6-5-1 on the season and ranked 7th in Division 2.

 

Honorable Mention: Joey Cullinan (Sr. Forward, Allen Park), Chris Mihai (So. Forward, Grosse Ile)
