#2 Forest Hills Central Defeats #6 East Grand Rapids 5-4 In A Scoring Thriller

#2 Ranked Forest Hills Central hosted #6 East Grand Rapids in a rematch from a tightly contested 3-2 Forest Hills Central win earlier in the season at Patterson Ice Center.

East Grand Rapids would strike first 12-minutes into the 1st period as Mike Malewitz beat Carl Mielock after taking a pass from Lance Hoezee to put EGR up 1-0.

FHC would battle back in the 2nd period as Jack Bowling beat netminder Lukas Schut after being set up from Nicko Withey and Zak Currie tying the game at 1-apiece. Two minutes later Brendan Baranowski scored putting EGR up 2-1 after taking a pass from Will Bregenzer sending the crowd into a frenzy. 16-seconds later FHC would tie the game as Nicko Withey scored shifting the emotions back to FHC with assists going to Jack Bowling and Zak Currie. EGR would once again take the lead as Alex West found the back of the net 2-minutes later with assists coming form James Lykins and Tommy Alkema. Forest Hills Central would score the next two goals in a 2-minute span as Connor Foresman took a pass from Charlie Brewer and beat the EGR defender out of the corner tying the game at 3-apiece. Less then 2-minutes later Connor Foresman would strike again giving FHC a 4-3 lead with assists going to Nate Hartline and Jesse Hall.

With the crowd cheering back and forth both teams came out flying in the 3rd period and EGR would capitalize on a FHC penalty as Brendan Baranowski once again tied the game with an un-assisted power play goal knotting the score at 4-apiece. Exactly 2-minutes later FHC would capitalize on a EGR pentaly as Mackey Withey fired a shot from the point beating the EGR netminder for a 5-4 lead FHC lead. Assists went to Zak Currie and Nicko Withey.

Both teams utilized their time outs in the last 2-minutes of play and FHC was able to fend off EGR’s last gasp to secure a 5-4 victory.

With the the win Forest Hills Central improves to 13-1-1 on the season and EGR continues their impressive season with an 11-3 record.
