WITHERSPOON NETS A TEXAS HAT TRICK

Flint Powers faced off against a short-staffed Lapeer Lightning at the Polar Palace last night in an SVL Conference match-up, which saw the Lightning limited to 5 shots in an abbreviated game. Powers scored early and often as they won 12 – 1.

Powers began their scoring efforts during the opening shift when senior forward Brendan Smith (LTU Player of the Month – way to go, Brendan) lit the lamp at 16:10. Junior defenseman Josh Warda and sophomore forward Mason Weiss had the assists. Approximately two minutes later, senior forward Noah Reeser found the back of the net with the assistance of senior defenseman Hans Hering and Josh Warda. Three minutes or so later, sophomore forward Luke Evo scored with the assistance of senior forward Conor Witherspoon and sophomore defender Carson Snyder. Twenty seconds later, Witherspoon scored the first of his four goals with the assistance of senior captain Jake Polakowski and forward Jon Thomas. Twenty-seven seconds later, Witherspoon went back to the house with a goal at 10:17. Brendan Smith assisted. At 8:59, junior forward Cam Lieffers located the back of the net with the able assistance of forward Noah Reeser and senior defenseman Garret Johnson. Luke Evo scored his second goal of the game on the power play at 7:29. Conor Witherspoon and Jake Polakowski had the assists. Senior forward Jon Thomas stuffed the turkey at 5:44 with assists from Conor Witherspoon and Hans Hering. Twenty-nine seconds later, Witherspoon scored his hat trick goal on assists from Jon Thomas and Cam Conover. At the end of the first period, the score stood at 9-0 in favor of the Chargers.

In the second period, Brendan Smith scored his second of the game at 16:36. Mr. Smith was assisted by Josh Warda (playmaker) and Mason Weiss. One minute and twenty-four seconds later, Conor Witherspoon scored his fourth goal of the game. He was assisted by Jon Thomas (playmaker) and Brendan Smith. With 1:25 remaining in the second period, Brendan Smith netted his hat trick goal. Junior forward Christian Wentworth and Mason Weiss (playmaker). The Lightning dodged the shut-out with seven seconds left, when Dylan Regling snapped a rocket from between the circles. Regling was assisted by forward Matt Todd and his brother Brayden Regling. Final score: Flint Powers 12, Lapeer Lightning 1.

The Chargers are about to test their mettle against two power house Division Two programs this weekend at the MIHL Showcase in Trenton. On Friday, Powers will take on Brother Rice at 6:00 p.m. Saturday at 3:00, they will face-off against Livonia Stevenson.
