MOUNT PLEASANT — Dow’s Shane Astrike had two goals and an assist in the Chargers’ 4-2 victory over Mount Pleasant in Saginaw Valley League hockey on Wednesday.

After a scoreless first period, Astrike’s first goal put Dow up 1-0 in the second. Another goal from Astrike and a goal by Brendan Holbrook extended the Chargers’ lead to 3-0 early in the third period.

The Oilers answered back almost immediately and added another goal two minutes later to cut Dow’s lead to 3-2 with 11 minutes remaining.

Brendan Sanders scored on a power play with just under two minutes to seal the win.

Holbrook had three assists for Dow, while Jon Baillargeon and Sanders each had two assists.

Seamus Belisle played in net for the Chargers.

Dow coach Dick Blasy was happy with his team’s performance.

“I thought we controlled the majority of the game, but (Mount Pleasant) did a really nice job of limiting our second and third chances,” Blasy said. “And then, just when I was feeling really good about it, they came back and answered with two goals and made it a hockey game again.”

The Chargers (13-7, 4-1 SVL) host Davison next Wednesday.
