POWERS DEFEATS FNV 10-0 IN REGIONAL CONTEST

BRADY STEBBINS PITCHES THE SHUT-OUT

The Flint Powers Chargers faced off against the FNV Griffins in a regional semi-final last night at the Crystal Field House. The Chargers limited the Griffins to 10 shots on goal as they rolled to a 10-0 victory in an abbreviated contest.

Senior forward Chase Knoblock commenced scoring operations at 15:07 of the first period on an assist from senior forward Conor Witherspoon. Junior forward Keigan Wildfong made it 2-0 with a goal at the 8:39 mark. Senior forward Noah Reeser assisted on Wildfong’s goal. El Capitano, Jake Polakowski made it 3-0 in favor of the Chargers with the assistance of senior forwards Brendan Smith and Conor Witherspoon. With 13 seconds remaining in the first period, junior forward Luke Evo scored to make it 4-0 at the end of one period of play. Senior defenseman Garrett Johnson and sophomore Carson Snyder assisted on Evo’s goal.

At 15:36 of the second period, Brendan Smith scored with assists from junior forward Christian Wentworth and junior d-man Josh Warda. Mason Weiss took one to the house at 12:24. Weiss was assisted by Conor Witherspoon (his third) and Brendan Smith (his second). Senior forward Joe Schunck scored less than a minute later from Josh Warda to make it 7-0. Conor Witherspoon checked in with the first of his two goals at 7:29. Witherspoon received invaluable assistance from Chase Knoblock and Josh Warda (playmaker). Roughly a minute and a half later, junior forward Cam Conover illuminated the big red light. Conover was assisted by Luke Evo and Garret Johnson (his second). Conor Witherspoon completed scoring operations for the Chargers at 2:10 of the second period with the assistance of sophomore forward Mason Weiss and Chase Knoblock (his second).

Brady Stebbins was flawless in net, stopping 10 shots for the shut-out.

The Chargers head to Saginaw next to face Walled Lake Western in the regional final on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
