There are more than 100 MI-HS alumni continuing their playing careers post-high school. With the Junior Hockey Roundup, we highlight some of the standout performances in various junior leagues from across North America over the weekend.

Beginning the New Year in the USHL, Quinn Preston (Trenton, 2015) started 2018 off on the right foot by producing a five-point weekend in back-to-back games against Muskegon. Preston assisted on both of the Saints’ goals in Friday’s 3-2 loss and added a goal and two more assists in Saturday’s 4-3 win, earning a split with the Lumberjacks and having a hand in six-of-seven team goals over the weekend.

Derek Schaedig (Chelsea, 2016) made his first start of 2018, earning a 3-2 win against Sioux City in a matchup the was decided in a three-round shootout. The NCAA Harvard commit made stopped 18-of-20 shots and blanked the Musketeers in the shootout, as Schaedig won his fourth game in his last six starts.

In the NAHL, Nick Bowman (Brother Rice, 2016) recorded a hat trick against the Minnesota Wilderness on Friday. The 6-foot, 195-pound forward added two assists in that game as well to cap off a five-point night in Coulee Region’s 9-4 route of the Wilderness.

Austin Bottrell (Farmington Unified, 2015) picked up an assist on a Lone Star power-play goal in Friday’s 3-2 overtime loss to Corpus Christi. Bottrell has seven points in the team’s last six games totaling three goals and 15 points in 19 games this season.

With an assist in back-to-back games for Northeast, Colin Bilek (Brighton, 2015) has picked up three points in his last four games, effectively ending a bit of a scoring drought. At one point the NAHL’s leading scorer, Bilek managed just five points in a 10-game span but after the weekend now has 10 goals and 32 points in 32 games this season.

In the CCHL, Sam Knoblauch (U-D Jesuit, 2016) rattled off a goal and two assists in Sunday’s 5-3 win over Brockville. The NCAA UMass-Lowell commit tallied the primary assist on the Canadians’ second goal of the game just 10:08 into the first period. That point ended the longest scoring drought of Knoblauch’s season at 131:27, just over two games without recording a point. Knoblauch is second in the league in scoring with 21 goals and 60 points in 44 games.
