Here are the top 25 hockey teams as of January 14.

1. Detroit Catholic Central.  The Shamrocks are 12-0 against in-state rivals, but will be put to the test against a red-hot Birmingham Brother Rice squad on Wednesday.
2. Orchard Lake St. Mary's.  The Eaglets have now won 8 straight and outscored the opposition 37-16 during this stretch.
3. Livonia Stevenson. The Spartans have won 5 straight to remain on top of Division 2 ranks, but that claim will be threatened on Friday when they host Trenton.
4.  Brighton. The Bulldogs have a 3-game winning streak and a 9-3-1 record against in-state teams.
5. Flint Powers. While the Chargers dropped their first game of the season, losing to O.L. St. Mary's, 3-2, they remain the team to beat in Division 3 sitting at 11-1-2.
6. Hartland.  Coach Rick Gadwa has the Eagles sitting with a 9-2 in-state record, and once again a serious threat to Division 2 supremacy. 
7. Hancock.  The Bulldogs are 11-3 on the season and are right on the heels of Powers for a claim to being the best in Division 3.
8. Saline. The Hornets continue to be a great story in Division 2 as they are now an impressive 12-1 on the season.
9. Grandville. The Bulldogs are 13-1 on the season and always a threat to advance to the Division 1 final 4 at USA Hockey Arena.
10. Trenton. The Trojans are red-hot as they ride a 10-game unbeaten streak (9-0-1) into our top 10.
11. Plymouth. The Wildcats are on a 4-game winning streak that has seen them outscore their opponents 24-1.
12.  Utica Eisenhower. Coach Bob Hall and his Eagles have put together a fine 10-2-1 record so far this season.
13.  Birmingham Brother Rice. The Warriors are heating up at the right time with a 5-game winning streak, serving notice to Division 2 teams that the defending champs will be hard to beat.
14. Houghton. The Gremlins have won 7 of 8, and will be one of the teams to beat in Division 3 come playoff time.
15. Bloomfield Hills Cranbrook Kingswood. The Cranes have shown that they can play with anybody, as evidenced by the battle they gave Catholic Central in their barn on Saturday.
16. Northville. The Mustangs have won 4 of 5 as coach Clint Robert continues to do a fine job with his squad.
17. Detroit Country Day. The Yellowjackets debut in our rankings with an impressive 11-2-1 record led by one of the best goalies in the state, junior Sam Evola.
18. Marquette. The Redmen have won 4 straight and are a real threat to reach the Division 2 semifinals at USA Hockey Arena
19. Saginaw Heritage. The Hawks sit at 10-2-1 and remain an intriguing team to watch in Division 1.
20. Sault Ste. Marie. The Blue Devils have a big Division 3 showdown looming with Powers next weekend.
21. Chelsea. Coach Don Wright has his Bulldogs in the conversation in Division 3 with a 9-2-1 record. 
22. Warren DeLaSalle. As the defending Division 3 champs, the Pilots will be tough to beat once again come playoff time.
23. Davison. The Cardinals debut in our top 25 as they have put together an impressive 9-1 start, and an intriguing team to watch in Division 2.
24. Troy. The Colts are 10-2 and one of a few teams to watch in the congested OAA Red Division. 
25. Calumet. The Copper Kings incredibly difficult scheduling will have them battle tested, and ready for the Division 3 playoffs.

Here are our Top Ten players at this time, compiled from select coaches and media members in state.

F. Drew Welsch, Trenton. Welsch, a senior, now has 20 goals and 14 assists in only 14 games for the Trojans, including 5 goals in a 6-3 win over Port Huron Northern on Saturday.

F. Adam Conquest, Brighton. The Bowling Green commit has 10 goals and 10 assists in 20 games. 

F. Shane Haggerty, Grandville. This senior is leading the way with his play-making abilities for the Bulldogs.

F. Josh Albring, Hartland. A member of the "Dream Team" as a junior, the big winger is making the case for one of the best in the state.

F. Alex Nordstrom, Hancock. Still only a junior, Nordstrom has already scored his fair share of big goals for the Bulldogs, and has put up 15 goals and 19 assists in only 14 games so far this season.

F. Brendan West, Detroit Catholic Central. C.C. coach Brandon Kaleniecki had this to say about his star senior: “What I love is the things that he does, and doesn’t get enough credit for. He is strong on his stick, and wins 50/50 puck battles all over the ice". His 200 foot game has really stuck out this season for the Shamrocks.

F. Sam Lechel, Flint Powers. A senior. Lechel has put up 16 goals and 11 assists in just 14 games, and had both goals in a 3-2 loss to St. Mary's on Saturday.

D. Jack Sargent, Northville. The 4-year player is now a captain and leading the Mustangs in scoring with 10 goals and 10 assists in 12 games. Mustangs coach Clint Robert had this to say about his star defender: "Jack is a leader on and off the ice, he is a guy that loves high school hockey."

D. Jordan Kovacs, Warren DeLaSalle. Kovacs, a senior blue-liner, is leading the way for the Defending Division 3 champions. He has tremendous ability to create offense from the blue line.

G. Will Tragge, Livonia Stevenson. The latest in a line of solid goaltenders at Stevenson under coach David Mitchell, Tragge has become one of the best players, not just goalies, in the state. Coach Mitchell had this to say about his goaltender "Will is a tireless worker who has been the backbone of our program the past two seasons, and also possesses "next level" abilities."
