Six Players Named Best of the Best in HS Hockey

On Friday evening, the Michigan High School Hockey Coaches’ Association (MHSHCA) announced the six members of the 2020 Dream Team, as players voted to be the top performers from the 2019-20 season. Following the conclusion of All-State voting, a second round of voting was conducted where coaches selected three forwards, two defensemen and one goalie from a pool of First-Team honorees named in Division-I, Division-II and Division-III. The Dream Team is deemed to be the best players at their respective positions regardless of Division.

Forward Seth Lause, Livonia Stevenson

A four-year senior for the Spartans, Seth Lause amassed 81 points in 92 career games. More than half of those points came in his final season, as the 6-foot-1 two-way forward tallied 17 goals and 44 points while playing against one of the toughest schedules in high school. Lause is a powerful player who’s strong with and without the puck, able to outwork opponents at both ends of the ice.

Forward Scott Loukus, Calumet

One of the many weapons that the Copper Kings deployed this season, Scott Loukus led a dynamic Calumet crew in scoring with the best performance of his career. Another four-year guy, Loukus totaled 128 points in 107 career games, scoring 54 of those points this season. A well-rounded playmaker, the 5-foot-9 forward plays at a very fast pace, and creates a ton of offensive opportunities for himself and his linemates.

Forward Brady Rappuhn, Saginaw Heritage

Pound for pound one of the best pure goal scorers in the state. Brady Rappuhn highlighted a fantastic top forward line for the Hawks and led the program to its third consecutive Division-I Final Four. The 6-foot winger finished among the leading scorers in high school hockey with 44 goals and 89 points, including 12 in the playoffs. With good size, swift speed and a lethal shot, Rappuhn is a threat every time he gets within 20 feet of the net.

Defenseman Nick Justice, Livonia Stevenson

A first-year junior, Nick Justice began his career with a 14-game point streak to make an immediate mark on high school hockey. That impression remained all season long as the 6-foot-1 righty recorded a point in 23-of-25 games. He was the No. 2 ranked Spartans most consistent player, leading the team with 14 goals and 46 points. Able to keep the game simple with subtle plays but also amazes with dazzling moves and fancy puck work, Justice has a wide variety of skills in his arsenal.

Defenseman Dominic Rossi, Howell

The big-bodied blue liner had a monster season for Howell. Dominic Rossi racked up 21 goals and 51 points, helping the Highlanders reach the Final Four for the first time since 2010. The 6-foot-1 lefty compiled 14 multi-point games, totaling 37 goals and 88 points during his three-year career. Constantly engaging in the offense, Rossi displayed the ability to lead the charge from the back end and create a ton of opportunities for 16th ranked Howell.

Goalie, Joey Cormier, Trenton

He’s led Trenton to its third straight Final Four appearance with arguably his best season yet. Joey Cormier is 20-6-0 this season with a .944 save percentage and 1.62 goals-against average as the best goalie in high school hockey. The 5-foot-10 netminder earned 10 of those victories playing in the toughest conference in hockey — the Michigan Interscholastic Hockey League (MIHL) — and has a total of 55 career wins in three seasons for the Trojans. Cormier is a battler and as long as he’s in net, the team is never completely out of the game.
