Class of 2019 standout set to join No. 20-ranked RMU next fall

On Thursday, Caden Lewandowski (University Liggett, 2019) verbally committed to join NCAA Division-I Robert Morris University for the 2021-22 season. The 6-foot-4 defenseman currently plays for the Johnstown Tomahawks in the NAHL, and was once a three-year standout for the Knights.

Lewandowski totaled 42 points during his three-year career at Liggett, including a 3-goal, 24-point campaign during his junior season. After that, the Port Huron native forgoed his senior season and joined the Pittsburgh Penguins Elite in the T1EHL, before starting his junior hockey career. He spent last season in the USHL and is currently fifth in the NAHL in scoring with nine points in 14 games this season.

Robert Morris is ranked 20th according to the latest USCHO poll, and Lewandowski is the ninth member of their 2021 recruiting class. He is also the eighth MI-HS alum to make a Division-I commitment in 2020, joining the likes of Nick Trela (Trenton, 2017), Tim Erkkila (Brighton, 2019), Jed Pietila (Hartland, 2017), Jordan Venegoni (Livonia Churchill, 2018), John Druskinis (Hartland, 2020), Connor McGrath, (Cranbrook, 2020), and Cooper Black (Alpena, 2019).

Did I miss anybody? Let’s talk about it on Twitter! With more than 40 MI-HS alumni on NCAA D-I rosters and upwards of 100 more playing high-level junior hockey, there’s plenty to discuss.
