Last week, Kyle Gaffney (Detroit Catholic Central, 2020) announced his verbal commitment to play Division-I college hockey for the University of Alaska-Fairbanks. The Shamrock alum graduated from high school last spring, and just seven months into his junior hockey career, Gaffney has already secured a college commitment.

Gaffney played three seasons for coach Brandon Kaleniecki at DCC, and in that span, the dynamic forward scored 43 goals and 113 points. He helped the program to a Division-I state championship during his junior season. Prior to the beginning of his senior season, Gaffney signed a tender agreement with the Aberdeen Wings of the North American Hockey League (NAHL), which he fulfilled a year later.
The Plymouth native has played 35 games for the Wings this season, scoring one goal and 13 points as the team sits in first place in the Central Division with a 41-3-1 record. He is slated to join the Nanooks as part of the 2022 recruiting class.
