Last week, the North American Hockey League (NAHL) announced its 2020-21 All-Rookie Teams, and among those listed were a pair of Detroit Catholic Central alumni from the Class of 2020.
Kyle Gaffney played three seasons for the Shamrocks, totaling 37 goals and 113 points in 84 career high school games. He signed a tender agreement with the Aberdeen Wings in November of his senior season and following graduation, Gaffney joined the NAHL’s reigning league champion last fall. In his first season of junior hockey, the 6-foot forward from Plymouth, Michigan, scored three goals and 21 points in the regular season and has played an important role in getting the Wings back to the Robertson Cup Semifinals.
Brendan Miles split time during his senior season between the Omaha Lancers in the United States Hockey League (USHL) and CC last year. He was a three-year letterman for the Shamrocks, scoring 15 goals and 73 points in 76 games from the blue line. The Farmington Hills native tendered with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs near the end of his senior year, and joined the organization the following fall. He was one-of-five MI-HS alumni on the Fairbanks roster, all of whom played on the back end. In 45 games for the Ice Dogs, Miles scored five goals and 20 points in his first full season of junior hockey.
During their time at CC, Gaffney and Miles led the program to a Division-I State Championship in 2019 and a return to the Final Four in 2020 before the postseason was postponed. Gaffney verbally committed to NCAA Alaska-Fairbanks in April and Miles remains a top prospect in the NAHL yet to make a college commitment.
