Frank Saputo impresses with a goal, Utica Eisenhower relies on defense to get a victory

Both defenses battled it out, but Utica Eisenhower defeated Romeo 2 - 1 at Suburban Ice Macomb on Friday. Romeo racked up one goal to take the lead in the first period. Utica Eisenhower added one goal in the second period to tie the score. The second period closed with both teams at one goal a piece. Utica Eisenhower added one goal in the third period to break the tie and take the lead, grabbing a late victory.

In the second period, things got going when Utica Eisenhower's Drew Lauer put the biscuit over the goal line with 7:16 left in the period. Joe Kardynal and Robbie Pizzimenti assisted on the goal. Utica Eisenhower never looked back. In the third period, Utica Eisenhower found more success on the ice when Frank Saputo lit the lamp with an assist from Stino Biondo with 10:12 left in the period, moving further into the lead.

Frank Saputo and Drew Lauer each contributed one goal for Utica Eisenhower. Kardynal, Pizzimenti, and Biondo each added one assist for Utica Eisenhower.

Showing off a strong glove, Utica Eisenhower's Kenny Stralko turned away 22 shots to get the win.

This was the season's first game for Romeo but Utica Eisenhower entered the game with a record of 1-0.
