Nathan Gurzell nails the hat trick as Troy Athens more productive at shooting to achieve victory

Troy Athens overcame L'Anse Creuse North 7 - 4 at Troy Sports Center on Saturday. L'Anse Creuse North outscored Troy Athens two to one to jump in to the lead at the end of the first period. Both teams racked up two goals in the second period but L'Anse Creuse North maintained their lead. L'Anse Creuse North was ahead four to three, leaving Troy Athens to regroup in the locker room. Troy Athens engineered a comeback in the third period with four goals, winning in the end.

Having a huge impact in the game for Troy Athens, Nathan Gurzell earned the hat trick with four goals and also had one helper. During the first period, with 4:03 left Gurzell scored a goal with assists from Brad Merola and Cory Faw. Troy Athens kept going when Gurzell put the puck in the net with 9:45 left in the third period. Ian Marchand assisted on this goal. Continuing their roll, Gurzell netted an unassisted goal with 7:03 left in the third period. Piercing though the defense, Gurzell put the puck between the pipes with 6:53 left in the third period. Trevor Henson and Mark Zielinski assisted on this goal.

Troy Athens's Jeff Merola turned away 19 shots to gain the win. L'Anse Creuse North's A Goalie had just 34 saves on 41 shots to get the loss.

Contributing to their win, Troy Athens was 2-for-6 on power plays.

Troy Athens extended their winning streak to four games and now has a record of 4 wins and 1 loss. L'Anse Creuse North ended the game with a record of 0-2.
