Petoskey Hangs On To Beat Manistee 4-3 In Overtime

Skye Pieffer is key with two goals as Petoskey strong on D to prevail in the end

Skye Pieffer netted the game winner with 2:30 left in overtime, as Petoskey handed a loss to Manistee 4 - 3 at Griffin Arena on Saturday. Petoskey outscored Manistee two to one to take the lead at the end of the first period. As the second period unfolded, Manistee outscored Petoskey two to one to tie things up. The second period ended with both teams at three goals each. Both teams failed to score in the third period so they stayed tied, sending the game into overtime. In the overtime, Petoskey scored one unanswered goal winning the tight contest.

Petoskey's Skye Pieffer got two goals for Petoskey. Things got going when Petoskey's Pieffer put the puck between the pipes in the first period with an assist from Brandon Pomranke. Continuing their roll, Pieffer Pieffer got a second goal with assists from Brandon Pomranke and Tanner Davis. This put Petoskey out in front for good. Tanner Davis and Nick Trombley each contributed one goal for Petoskey.

Petoskey's Breanna Merriam stopped 23 out of 26 shots for the win.

This was the season opener for Manistee but Petoskey entered the game with a record of 1-2.
