Houghton Vanquishes Negaunee Miners 9-1

Raymond Brice impresses with two goals, Houghton looks to the defense to dominate their opponents

In a rout, Houghton was superior against Negaunee Miners 9 - 1 at Dee Stadium on Tuesday. Houghton outscored Negaunee Miners four to one to take the lead at the end of the first period. Houghton added three straight goals in the second period and held on to its lead. Houghton never looked back. In the final period Houghton scored two straight goals sealing the deal and winning the game.

Having a great day, Raymond Brice netted two goals for Houghton as well as two helpers. Houghton's Brice put the puck between the pipes in the first period with an assist from Casey Markham. Houghton led for the rest of the game. During the first period, Brice put the puck in the net for a shorthanded goal with an assist from Connor Hannon. Houghton's Casey Markham got two goals for Houghton and also had one point. During the first period, Markham netted a goal with an assist from Raymond Brice. Piling on, Markham put the puck between the pipes in the first period with an assist from Hunter Rajala. Luke Haataja, Connor Hannon, Spencer Donnelly, Cole Hagwell, and Jed Kallio each tallied one goal for Houghton.

Houghton's Jayson Wiitala stopped six out of seven shots to earn the win. Negaunee Miners's Tyler Riutta had just 44 saves on 53 shots to suffer the loss.

Adding to their victory, Houghton went 1-for-5 on power plays. Negaunee Miners went 0-for-2.

Houghton ended the game with a record of 11-2. Negaunee Miners ended the game with a record of 0 wins and 3 losses.
