Owen Helber shines with the hat trick, Saline SEC goes on the defensive to narrowly win

Owen Helber netted the game-winning goal with 16:53 left in the third period, as Saline SEC was superior against Chelsea 4 - 2 at Ann Arbor Ice Cube on Saturday. Saline SEC racked up two goals to jump in to the lead in the first period. Chelsea gained two unanswered goals in the second period to even up the score. The second period closed with both teams at two goals each. Saline SEC took the lead in the third period with two straight goals and won the game.

In the first period, Saline SEC's Tyler Palka put the puck in the net with assists from Ryan Blake-Jones and Michael Phillips, with 8:58 left in the period. Piling on, Owen Helber netted a goal with 7:40 left on the clock. Grant Ellis and Dino Tzavaras assisted on the goal, going further ahead. In the second period, Chelsea had other ideas when Caleb Bentley put the puck between the pipes with assists from Jacob Ryan and Matt Walz, with 10:38 left on the clock. Piling on, Ted Darr netted a goal with an assist from Mack Sullivan, with 3:50 left on the clock, to bring things to a tie at 2 to 2. In the third period, charging back, Saline SEC's Owen Helber netted an unassisted goal with 16:53 left in the period, to pull ahead at 3-2. This solidified the win for Saline SEC. Continuing the roll, Saline SEC's Helber once again put the puck between the pipes another time with 14:14 left in the period. Antonio Diaz and Adam Haas got the assists on the goal, to move further ahead.

Having an outstanding day for Saline SEC, Owen Helber scored the hat trick with three goals. Tyler Palka added one goal for Saline SEC. Diaz, Haas, Blake-Jones, Ellis, and Phillips each contributed one assist for Saline SEC.

Caleb Bentley and Ted Darr each contributed one goal for Chelsea.

Displaying a golden glove, Saline SEC's Chris Kreuger had 28 saves to take the win. Chelsea's Charlie Miller stopped 19 shots to get the loss.

Chelsea finished the game with a record of 14 wins and 4 losses.
