Plymouth out defends to squeak by for the win

Dean Gunther scored the game winner with 10:40 left in the third period, as Plymouth was superior against Macomb Dakota 4 - 2 at Kennedy's Ice Arena on Friday. Plymouth chalked up one unanswered goal to jump in to the lead in the first period. Both teams added one goal in the second period but Plymouth maintained their lead for the win. In the final period, Plymouth outscored their opponents by one goal and kept the lead to win the game.

In the first period, Plymouth got points on the board when Jake Zaborowski lit the lamp with assists from Cameron Naddell and Josh Smith with 3:57 left in the period. In the second period, continuing with more scoring, Plymouth's Spencer Godin got a goal with assists from Mike Schultz and Cameron Naddell with 14:18 left in the period, to get further in the lead. Answering back on the ice, Macomb Dakota's Sammy Shaheen put the biscuit over the goal line with assists from Chad Roskelly and Matt Riehl with 6:16 left in the period. In the third period, Macomb Dakota fired up their game when Marc DiGrande got a goal with assists from Billy Karvounis and Paul Andary, with 15:53 left on the clock, bringing the game to a tie. In reply, Plymouth's Dean Gunther put the biscuit over the goal line without any assistance, with 10:40 left in the period, to pull ahead. It was the final straw for Macomb Dakota. Maintaining pressure, Mike Schultz put the puck between the pipes with an assist from Nick Schultz with 2:16 left on the clock, to pull further ahead.

Sammy Shaheen and Marc DiGrande each contributed one goal for Macomb Dakota.

Having a standout day, Plymouth's Eric Vandenbosch stopped 20 out of 22 shots to earn the win. Macomb Dakota's Anthony Benvenuti had 29 saves on 33 shots to get the loss.

Plymouth ended up with a record of 12 wins and 1 loss. Macomb Dakota ended the game with a record of 19-2.
