East Kentwood Outlasts Grandville 4-3 In Overtime

Alex Birkman hits two goals and East Kentwood makes forwards' life difficult to prevail

Alex Birkman scored the game-winning goal with 6:31 left in overtime, as East Kentwood defeated Grandville 4 - 3 at Georgetown Arena on Saturday. East Kentwood and Grandville both scored one goal to end the first period tied. Both teams scored two goals in the second period and remained tied. The end of the second period saw both teams at three goals a piece. Both teams failed to score in the third period so they remained tied, sending the game into overtime. In the overtime, East Kentwood scored one unanswered goal to win in the end.

East Kentwood's Alex Birkman netted two goals for East Kentwood. Things got going when East Kentwood's Birkman Birkman put the biscuit over the goal line with an assist from Tyler Layle. East Kentwood found more success on the ice when Birkman lit the lamp in overtime with assists from Blake Hinds and Tyler Layle. This cemented East Kentwood's win. Cam Mowery and Brendan VanSweden each tallied one goal for East Kentwood.

Displaying a golden glove, East Kentwood's Zack Casavant turned away 36 shots to gain the win. Grandville's Sean Schmeiser had 36 saves and so suffered the loss.

East Kentwood continued their current win streak of two games and now has a record of 14-12. Grandville finished the game with a record of 18-8.
