Waterford - White Lake Lakeland practiced in sharing the hockey puck in a 7-1 victory over Waterford United in High School hockey action at Lakeland Ice Arena Friday night.

The idea of sharing the puck started early in the game as sophomores Matthew Kovach found an open Bryant Cohen for a goal in the first two minutes of the game for an early 1-0 lead.

Lakeland (11-2-1) took a 2-0 with 8:25 left in the first period as Josh Smith passed to Cohen for a breakaway. Cohen's initial shot was saved, but Nick Langley picked up the loose puck and scored for the Eagles.

"Our Sophomores has played real good," Lakeland head coach Tim Ronayne said. "They have gotten used to the style of play and gotten used to sharing the puck."

The second period belonged to Nolan Johnson with two goals to give Lakeland a 4-0 lead.

Joey Blackwell added a goal for Lakeland in the first two minutes of the third period. Senior defenseman Justin Pahl scored for the Eagles with 14:12 left in the game to extend the lead to 6-0.

Lakeland will hope to keep its scoring offense in track today at 7:30 against Howell at Lakeland Ice Arena.

Waterford United (3-12-2) scored its first goal of the game with an unassisted goal by Chase Sereno.

"We really didn't came out ready to play," Waterford United head coach Marty Smith said. "We came off a win last game against Grand Blanc, which was good, but we just didn't skate well. Lakeland is a well-coached team, I take nothing away from them, but we can give them a better game."

Waterford United will look to rebound tonight against Walled Lake Northern at Lakeland Ice Arena.
