GROSSE POINTE – Thanksgiving dinner had yet to be consumed the last time Hartland lost a hockey game.

The Eagles’ 14-game unbeaten and 13-game winning streaks ended on Monday with a 4-1 loss at Grosse Pointe Liggett, the third-ranked team in Division 3.

Hartland’s last loss was an 11-3 rout at the hands of Livonia Stevenson on Nov. 23.

Hartland coach Rick Gadwa was unable to attend the 5:30 p.m. game because of a work obligation.

“It’s still eating at me right now,” Gadwa said. “I hate missing anything. To know my guys were playing and I had nothing to do with it bugs me.”

Gadwa hopes that this loss has the same impact as the Eagles’ other setback, serving as a reminder that plenty of improvement needs to take place if they are to reach the state Division 2 championship game for the second year in a row.

“We just came out on the losing end, which might be good for our team right now,” he said “We had a lot of success as of late. I see it as a little bit of a reality check.”

Liggett led 2-0 after two periods. Hartland got within a goal before Liggett scored the final two goals, the last into an empty net.
