Lakeland hockey team hammers Waterford United

Lakeland hockey blasted away early and often for a league win Friday against Waterford United.

The Eagles opened the scoring 1:28 into the first as Bryant Cohen scored from Nick Langley and Matt Kovach.

Langley made it 2-0 with 8:02 remaining in the first from Cohen and Josh Smith.

The Eagles (11-4-2) kept things going in the second with two more goals.

Nolan Johnson scored 3:25 into the second, with Justin Pahl and Blake Kocsis getting assists. Johnson did it again with 5:41 remaining to make it 4-0. Owen Skrelunas earned an assist.

Lakeland pushed the lead to 6-0 with Joey Blackwell (14:33) and Pahl (14:18) scoring 15 seconds apart. Brendan Lewis, Johnson (two) and Kocsis had assists.

Waterford ruined the shutout with a goal with 13:30 to play.

Langley capped the scoring with 7:16 remaining, with Blackwell and Cohen assisting.

Brandon Pomerleau got the win by stopping 14 out of 15 shots. Lakeland peppered Waterford with 48 shots.

The Eagles were ticketed with eight penalties to six for Waterford.
