Eagles go 1-1-1 in busy week on ice

Lakeland hockey saw plenty of ice time last week, going 1-1-1 during the action.

The week started with a Bogie Lake Road match-up Feb. 12 against Walled Lake Northern, which Lakeland won, 4-3.

Northern took the early with the lone goal of the first period.

The Eagles pulled even two minutes into the second, with Joey Blackwell scoring from Bryant Cohen and Nick Langley.

Lakeland took its first lead a little more than two minutes later, with Justin Pahl scoring from Nolan Johnson and Brendan Lewis.

Northern notched its second goal with 7:16 to play in the second, with Dave Markey scoring his second for the Knights.

Pahl retaliated with his second of the period with 4:34 remaining as the Eagles entered the third up 3-2. Blackwell and Johnson assisted.

Northern scored just 16 seconds into the third to pull even.

The final goal and game-winner came from Cohen with Langley assisting with 8:37 remaining.

Adam Szymanski stopped 27 out of 30 shots for the win in goal. Lakeland produced 18 shots. Both teams were hit with five penalties.

Lakeland 2, Waterford 2
On Friday, the Eagles faced off with Waterford United.

Waterford scored the only goal of the first.

Lakeland tallied the lone goal of the second, with Blake Kocsis scoring from Josh Smith and Johnson.

The Eagles took the lead with 9:04 to play in the third, with Justin McFatridge scoring from Seth Farmer and Blackwell.

Waterford netted a short-handed goal with 7:21 remaining for the final goal of the game.

The Eagles outshot Waterford, 47-17. Brandon Pomerleau stopped 15 shots for Lakeland.

Northville 5, Lakeland 1
In a KLAA crossover game, Northville put up the first four goals and held off Lakeland, playing its third game in four days.

The Mustangs popped in three goals in the first in three different ways, even-strength, power-play and short-handed.

Northville scored in the opening minute of the second to pull ahead 4-0.

Lakeland got a short-hander of its own, with Matt Kovach scoring unassisted, the only goal for the Eagles.

A Northville goal in the third capped the scoring.

Szymanski was plenty busy in goal, facing 38 shots to 24 posted for Lakeland.

Lakeland sits at 13-7-3 on the season.
