Eagles beat Grand Blanc, drop pair

Lakeland hockey knocked off Grand Blanc with two goals in the first and second periods for a 4-1 victory Dec. 8.

At Perani’s Ice Arena, Lakeland’s Travis Gragg started the scoring with an unassisted goal with 6:47 remaining in the first.

Nolan Johnson made it 2-0 with a power play goal from Gragg to take a 2-0 lead into the second.

The Bobcats pulled within one early in the second, but Joey Blackwell made it 3-1 with Nick Langley getting the assist with 10:02 remaining in the second.

Jordan Sailus made it a three goal cushion with Johnson and Nic Fernandez assisting.

Lakeland keeper Adam Szymanski stopped everything he saw in the third and made 23 saves on 24 shots for the night. The Eagles peppered Grand Blanc with 34 shots.

Waterford United 3, Lakeland 1

Waterford United scored a pair of goals in the final seven minutes of the game to pull away for a 3-1 win Dec. 10 at Lakeland Ice Arena.

The scoring didn’t start until the second period when Waterford United scored and went into the third up 1-0.

Matt Kovach got the Eagles on the board with 15:40 to play with Brenden Lemp assisting to pull even.

Waterford United went back in front on the power play with 6:56 to play and got an insurance goal with 2:09 to play.

Brandon Pomerleau stopped 33 of 36 shots on the night. Lakeland recorded 33 shots.

Farmington 6, Lakeland 3
The Eagles traveled to Farmington Hills Ice Arena on Friday and came up on the short end of a 6-3 decision.

The teams put up one goal each in the first with Lakeland’s coming from the stick of Blake Kocsis from Brendan Lewis and Nick Langley.

The Eagles went in front with Fernandez scoring 33 seconds into the second period from Lewis.

Farmington would tack on a pair of goals less than a minute apart at 4:22 and 3:36, but Lakeland made it 3-3 with Johnson scoring from Lewis and Gragg at 3:12.

Farmington managed a 4-3 lead with 41 seconds to play in the second.

It was all Farmington in the third with goals at 5:15 and an empty netter at 2:09 to ice the win.

Szymanski faced 34 shots on the night with Lakeland recording 24.

The Eagles fell to 2-6.
