Derek Schaedig, USHL Lincoln Stars (Brandon Anderson)There are more than 100 MI-HS alumni continuing their playing careers post-high school. With the Junior Hockey Roundup, we highlight some of the standout performances in various junior leagues from across North America over the weekend.

In the USHL, goalie Derek Schaedig (Chelsea, 2016) made his second start of the regular season for Lincoln. He turned away 21-of-24 shots faced and Schaedig came away with his first win of the 2017-18 season on Saturday. The NCAA Harvard University commit has a .880 save percentage and 3.00 goals-against average through two games this season.

Logan Neaton (Brighton, 2017) also saw action between the pipes over the weekend, this time in the NAHL. The 6-foot-2 goaltender faced 16 shots and stopped 14 of them in Fairbanks’ game on Saturday night. Neaton carried a 1-1 game deep into overtime, when Kenai River broke the tie on the power play, handing the Ice Dogs an overtime loss. Neaton now has a 2-2-1 record with a 2.02 goals-against average and .896 save percentage.

Vince Marino (Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, 2016) has recorded a point in each of Brookings’ last four games and five of the last six. The West Bloomfield native scored a shorthanded goal late in the third period on Friday to force overtime against Coulee Region and picked up an assist the following night as well. Marino has six goals and 13 points in 17 games this season.

It took 16 games, but C.J. Regula (Cranbrook, 2016) scored his first goal with Corpus Christi on Saturday. That helped the IceRays to a 4-1 win and Regula would score a second goal on Sunday, as the team won yet again, this time 6-1 over Topeka. It marks the first time in almost a month that the IceRays have won back-to-back games, thanks in part to Regula’s offensive surge.

Adam Pitters (Grosse Pointe South, 2017) capitalized on the man advantage in the first period of Aberdeen’s 2-1 win over Minot on Friday. The goal was Pitters’ fourth of the season and third of which has come while on the power play. He is second on the team in power-play goals as the Wings’ PP unit ranks fifth in the NAHL with a 24.6 percent conversion rate.

In the NCDC, Hayden Taylor (Detroit Country Day, 2016) continued his point streak through the weekend, reaching a robust 9 games. The Islanders a 9-0-0 during that stretch and Taylor continues to gain steam as well. In Sunday’s 4-2 win over Connecticut, Taylor had two goals and an assist bringing his season totals to 11 goals and 17 points in 14 games.

Connor Smith (Pinckney, 2016) tallied goals in consecutive games in the SJHL this weekend. Strikes by Smith in back-to-back games helped La Ronge double its win total for the season, as they swept Yorkton in a two-game weekend series. Smith now has 10 goals and 13 points in 17 games.

In the CCHL, Joel Frazee (Wyandotte Roosevelt, 2016) recorded his first multi-point game of the season on Sunday. Frazee tied the game 2-2 in the middle of the second period with an even-strength goal, and then picked up a secondary assist on Hawkesbury’s go-ahead goal with 4:49 left in regulation. The Hawks went on to win 5-3 over Nepean and are currently second in the Yzerman Division with 28 points.

Thief River Falls went 3-0-0 in the SIJHL over the weekend, and Alec Daman (Chelsea, 2016) did his best to help the Norskies remain in first place. Daman picked up two assists in the team’s 4-3 shootout win on Saturday and then scored on a penalty shot in Sunday’s 2-0 win, giving the Norskies a comfortable seven-point lead in the league standings.

A few alums excelled for the Soo Eagles in the NOJHL, as Owen Kipke (Detroit Catholic Central, 2015) and Bobby Price (Sault Ste. Marie, 2017) had big weekends. Kipke scored a power-play goal in the Eagles’ 7-5 win on Saturday while Price picked up two assists. The following night, Price added another assist to his total as the Eagles won 5-1 for their sixth win in their last seven games.

In one weekend, C.J. Bradburn (Ann Arbor Pioneer, 2015) doubled his point total for the season, picking up three points in two games. Bradburn scored the game-winning goal and added an assist in Saturday’s 4-1 win and then added another goal in Timmons Rock’s 5-1 win the following day. Bradburn now has three goals and six points in 10 games.

There are more than 30 different junior leagues across North America and these are just some of the more prominent performances over the weekend from our MI-HS alums. Check back next week, as we continue to track these and many more players furthering their hockey careers post-high school.
