BLOOMFIELD HILLS - Luke Blasy and Carter Bean scored in the second period as Dow High beat Lake Orion, ranked seventh in Division 1, 2-1 on Saturday night to open the high school hockey season at the Detroit Skating Club.

After falling behind 1-0 on a Lake Orion goal with seven seconds left in the first period, the Chargers evened things just 55 seconds into the second on Blasy's goal, assisted by Jared Zahn.

Zahn and Brendan Sanders assisted on Bean's power-play goal 9:56 into the second period to put Dow into the lead, and Jeremy Slasor made it stand up with 28 saves in goal for the Chargers, who were outshot 29-24.

"I'm very proud of our effort tonight," Dow coach Dick Blasy said. "We were missing a few players tonight and the boys had to step up and dig deep.

"Jeremy was fantastic in net for us," Blasy added. "He made all the saves he was supposed to (make) and robbed one or two as well."

Dow will visit Livonia Churchill on Wednesday, Nov. 29.
