Regional playoff matchups announced for all three divisions

After a slow trickle of announcements over the past two months, all pre-regional playoff matchups for all three divisions were finalized this week and brackets for all 24 Regional Championship tournaments are available on the Hub.

The Division-I bracket features 10 teams ranked in MyHockeyRankings Top 25 as of Feb. 13th. Grandville (No. 9) is the only Top-25 team in Quarter 1, while Quarters 2 and 3 have two teams each that are ranked in the Top 15. Orchard Lake St. Mary’s (No. 3) and Brighton (No. 4) are the highest ranked teams in Quarter 2, both of which are placed in Region 4. While Quarter 3 has Utica Eisenhower (No. 13) and Saginaw Heritage (No. 15) placed in separate regions. The fourth and final quarter of the D-I bracket is packed with the most Top-25 teams in any division with five. Cranbrook (No. 10) and U-D Jesuit (No. 18) are both in Region 7 while Top-ranked Detroit Catholic Central, No. 21 Northville and No. 22 Salem are all in the same pre-regional.

In Division-II there are eight teams ranked in the Top 25, with six of them placed on one half of the bracket. Forest Hills Northern-Eastern (No. 25) is the highest-ranked team in its Quarter, as is No. 7 ranked Hartland in its respective Quarter. The other half of the bracket features Brother Rice (No. 8) and Davison (No. 23) in one Quarter, with No. 2 Livonia Stevenson, No. 5 Plymouth, No. 11 Trenton and No. 17 Saline residing in the last Quarter of the bracket.

Division-III has a similar split, with seven teams ranked in the Top 25 and five of them being on the same side of the bracket. Three ranked teams from the Upper Peninsula - No. 6 Hancock, No. 12 Calumet and No. 14 Houghton - will be competing in the same Region, with No. 16 Flint Powers and No. 24 Detroit Country Day as the highest ranked teams in the opposite Quarter. University Liggett (No. 19) and De La Salle (No. 20) are the only Top-25 teams on the other half of the bracket, and these two will square off in the first round of the tournament. The final quarter of the bracket is void of a Top-25 team altogether, with No. 37 Chelsea coming in as the highest-ranked team.

First games of the MI-HS State Playoffs get underway on Monday, Feb. 26th, and the Hub will be tracking the Road to USA Hockey Arena in all three divisions.
