Walled Lake Northern alum stays with Winnipeg

After playing three seasons in the NHL, goaltender Connor Hellebuyck inked a long-term, six-year contract with the Winnipeg Jets worth $37 million.

The four-year letterman at Walled Lake Northern played in a league-high 67 games in the 2017-18 season with 44 wins and posting a .924 save percentage as well as a 2.36 goals-against average.

Hellebuyck finished second in voting for the Vezina trophy, which is awarded to the best goaltender in the NHL each year, and led the Jets to Western Conference final.

The 25-year-old is one-of-seven MI-HS alums to play in the NHL last season along with 22 others that played with organizations' minor-league affiliates.
