HOWELL — Howell’s hockey team played a flawless first period defensively against top-ranked Hartland for 16 minutes and 59 seconds.

Unfortunately for the Highlanders, the final second of the period turned out to be the turning point in Hartland’s 7-1 victory Tuesday night at Grand Oaks Ice Arena.
