Michigan High School Hockey Coaches Association

Our mission is to promote Michigan High School hockey and good sportsmanship in conjunction with the highest possible academic achievement for our student athletes. 

As you can see, we have a tremendous amount of benefits. However, possibly the number one reason to join the Association is the unity among HS teams with hockey programs. The more unified we are, the greater voice we have. The greater voice we have tells players why they should play HS hockey. It is a great help to all of us when we are unified.

Over the past 6 months we have added Craig Peterson as our Hub update person. Craig has done a great job of researching where all former HS players are playing and updating the Hub with lots of information. High School hockey as always been a well-kept secret because we didn’t promote all of the great things that are happening. I think you will find with the Hub etc. that has changed.

Here is a detailed list of benefits that the Coaches Association offers to coaches and their student-athletes:

  • Ability to vote for All-State players (First-Team, Second-Team and Honorable mention for all three divisions)
  • Ability to vote for the Dream Team
  • Ability to vote for Mr. Hockey Award
  • Ability for your team to earn Academic All-State status
  • Ability for individual players to earn Academic All-State status
    • Any player with at least a 3.5 GPA is eligible for individual and 3.0 GPA team average for team awards
    • Medals and/or certificates for student-athletes for these awards
  • Ability to be nominated and vote on Coach of the Year Award
  • Ability to nominate and vote on Assistant Coach of the Year Award
  • Makes your players eligible for the MHSHCA Scholarship, awarded annually to three MI-HS players, with a $500 value to each recipient
  • Eligible to receive the Perseverance Award each year to a deserving student-athlete from your team
  • 3 additional scholarships are available for players from MHSHCA teams -- The Ryan Fischer Legacy, the Jimmy Devellano and the Henrik Zetterberg Scholarships
  • Can be nominated for our Coaches Hall of Fame
  • Can participate in surveys regarding HS hockey and the direction it is heading
  • Can attend our Annual Coaches Meeting/Clinics with guest speakers and the MHSAA rules meeting is covered. This is also a great time to network with fellow HS coaches
  • Teams can be eligible for our weekly rankings in each division
  • Free use of Krossover Video game break down software. You are able to break down game video free of charge
  • Receive information and updates about the MHSHCA and MHSAA.
  • Attend the Annual MHSHCA Coaches Clinic and Golf Outing (*If applicable)

Please understand that if you don’t sign up, you, your coaches and your players lose out on these benefits.
