MARQUETTE - Rebounding from a loss in Calumet Tuesday, the Marquette Senior High School hockey Redmen beat visiting Warren De La Salle Collegiate Friday night, 4-1.

Tanner Carriere scored a goal and added an assist as coach Doug Garrow's Redmen improved to 4-2 on the season in a game played at Lakeview Arena.

"We played really well in the third period in Calumet, and it carried over tonight," Garrow said. "The four goals were the most they've given up in a game this season - they've been allowing one per game in five games.

"We played well and it was a total team effort."

Luke Beerman, Tony Fedrizzi and Jake Phillips - on an empty-net effort at 16:02 of the final period - also scored for MSHS.

Christian Jackson collected two assists, with Austin Wachnicki and Joe Phillips recording one each.

Travis Cameron came up with 25 saves (2-7-16) in net for the Redmen; Josh Wilk made 26 stops (11-10-5) for De La Salle Collegiate.

"We really protected the middle defensively," Garrow said.

"Also, on the penalty kill, we didn't allow them too many shots from the slot area. We forced them to shoot outside.

"We generated a lot of offensive chances the first two periods, too," Garrow added.

"In the third, though. we had three penalties and even killed off a 5-on-3 disadvantage."
